Item Properties of recycled high density polyethylene and coffee dregs composites(Associação Brasileira de Polímeros, 2013) Cestari, Sibele Piedade; Mendes, Luis Claudio; Silva, Daniela França da; Chimanowsky Jr., Jorge Pereira; Altstädt, Volker; Demchuk, Vitaly; Lang, Anneliese; Leonhardt, Rodrigo Gheno; Keller, Jan-HendrikComposites of recycled high density polyethylene (HDPE-R) and coffee dregs (COFD) were elaborated. The blends were made at the proportions of 100-0, 90-10, 80-20, 70-30, 60-40, 50-50 and 40-60% polymer-fller ratio. The materials were evaluated through scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetry/derivative thermogravimetry (TGA), and compressive resistance test. The compounding was done using a two-stage co-kneader system extruder, and then cylindrical specimens were injection molded. All composites had a fne dispersion of the COFD into the polymeric matrix. The composites degraded in two steps. The frst one was in a temperature lower than the neat HDPE, but higher than the average processing temperature of the polymer. The melting temperature and the degree of crystallinity of the composites resulted similar to the neat HDPE ones. The compressive moduli of the composites resulted similar to the neat polymer one. The results show that these composites have interesting properties as a building material.Item Caracterização de um compósito polimérico biodegradável utilizando Poli (ε-caprolactona) e borra de café(Associação Brasileira de Polímeros, 2017) Mei, Lúcia Helena; Oliveira, NatáliaEste trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar a influência do tratamento químico da borra de café em relação as propriedades mecânicas e térmicas, morfologia e suscetibilidade à biodegradação quando utilizada na preparação de compósitos com Poli(ε-caprolactona) comparando-o com o polímero puro. A borra de café foi submetida ao tratamento álcali com hidróxido de sódio, seguida da acetilação. Os compósitos foram preparados utilizando diferentes porcentagens de borra de café. Com tratamento químico houve um aumento na estabilidade térmica da borra de café. Houve um aumento signifcativo no módulo elástico para o compósito com 10% de borra de café acetilada. As imagens obtidas por MEV mostraram uma parcial interação fbra/matriz para compósitos com borra acetilada. As análises térmicas mostraram que a adição de borra de café deslocou positivamente 10º C o pico máximo de degradação térmica em relação ao polímero puro. As amostras mais suscetíveis à biodegradação foram as que continham borra de café acetilada.Item Disposable coffee capsules as a source of recycled polypropylene(Associação Brasileira de Polímeros, 2020) Domingues, Michel Lincoln Bueno; Bocca, Jean Rodrigo; Fávaro, Silvia Luciana; Radovanovic, EduardoIn this paper was investigated the chemical, physical, thermal, mechanical and morphological characteristics of the recyclable materials obtained of the NESCAFÉ DOLCE GUSTO branded beverage capsules, characterizing different resulting compositions. The characterization was made by following techniques: Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Water Absorption and techniques for the analysis of mechanical properties (tensile and impact test). The results showed that the body of the capsule and the inner flter, both made of polypropylene, are the most interesting materials to be reused, having good properties, while the materials resulting from the mixtures of all the constituents in the beverage capsules presented decreased mechanical properties.Item Biodegradable hybrid PLA composites incorporating coffee husks and mineral fillers(Associação Brasileira de Polímeros, 2024-07-17) Silva, Riquelme Gomes da; Barboza, Laysa Silva; Silveira, Pedro Henrique Poubel Mendonça da; Conceição, Marceli do Nascimento da; Ribeiro, Roberto Carlos da Conceição; Bastos, Daniele CruzThis article details the development of hybrid composites with a PLA matrix filled with coffee husks, potassium feldspar, and Bahia Beige marble. Comprehensive analysis included FTIR, hardness, contact angle, density tests, SEM for microstructural insights, and XRF for optimizing raw material compositions. Also, variance analysis was applied in all results. The study revealed that these biodegradable composites hold promise for sustainable applications. Density variations were noted due to particle compaction, and hardness slightly decreased with coffee husks, attributed to uneven component distribution. Increased hydrophilicity was observed with filler addition. SEM confirmed strong interfacial adhesion, and color consistency was maintained. Notably, coffee husks significantly enhanced the degradation rate of PLA, achieving a 100% higher rate compared to pure PLA. The presence of calcium and potassium minerals offers additional benefits for soil health. The study suggests that thermoformed, multi-layered composite capsules can be fully biodegradable, promoting environmental sustainability in coffee capsule production.
