Item Levantamento e mapeamento do uso e cobertura da terra com ênfase nas áreas cafeeiras da região das Matas de Rondônia(Embrapa Territorial, 2024-04) Ronquim, Carlos Cesar; Rocha, Nívia Cristina Vieira; Alves, Enrique AnastácioO uso combinado de geotecnologias e dados do Cadastro Ambiental Rural (CAR) para estudar a região das Matas de Rondônia possibilitou entender as relações das áreas agropecuárias entre si e destas com a vegetação florestal nativa, traçar um panorama da produção cafeeira local e de sua relação com o desmatamento ou a degradação florestal, e fornecer informações valiosas para a discussão e a compreensão das mudanças de uso e cobertura da terra. A região das Matas de Rondônia conta com a primeira indicação geográfica (IG) do tipo denominação de origem (DO) para café canéfora (conilon e robusta) no mundo. É o centro de origem dos cafés robusta amazônicos, produto da hibridação entre as variedades botânicas, conilon e robusta. Os resultados apresentados nesta publicação podem amparar decisões na execução de políticas públicas para o estado de Rondônia e contribuir para ampliar a confiabilidade em investimentos, comercialização e consumo dos cafés produzidos nessa região.Item Formas de expressar o rendimento do café, relação entre frutos in natura e grãos beneficiados, em cafeeiros Coffea canephora no Brasil(Embrapa Rondônia, 2024-01) Espindula, Marcelo Curitiba; Rocha, Rodrigo Barros; Teixeira, Alexsandro Lara; Partelli, Fábio Luiz; Diocleciano, João MariaO rendimento do café gera interesse aos cafeicultores dos diferentes estados produtores e de diferentes níveis tecnológicos, esta característica é avaliada e expressa de diferentes formas pelas instituições de pesquisa e pelos cafeicultores. Na pesquisa, o rendimento é comumente expresso em termos percentuais ou pela relação massa/massa (kg). Os agricultores, por sua vez, referem-se a ela por meio da relação volume (litros, sacos ou latas) / massa (kg). Nesta publicação, vamos apresentar as principais formas de expressão do rendimento do café da espécie C. canephora utilizadas no Brasil.Item Estrangeiras e nacionais: as maiores casas exportadoras de café em Santos (1897-1930)(Departamento de Economia, Faculdade de Economia, Administração e Contabilidade da Universidade de São Paulo (FEA-USP), 2023-08-07) Silva, Gustavo Pereira daNo período 1897-1930, as lavouras do estado de São Paulo responderam por aproximadamente dois terços das sacas de café exportadas pelo Brasil, grãos que eram negociadas no porto de Santos. Mas, quais eram as firmas responsáveis por exportar o café brasileiro no porto paulista? A historiografia convencionou apontar o domínio de empresas estrangeiras sobre a comercialização do café no período citado. Embasado nos arquivos da Associação Comercial de Santos e nas edições do Wileman’s Brazilian Review, o artigo demonstra que as casas inglesas e alemãs lideraram as exportações em Santos até 1913, mas, com o início da I Guerra Mundial em 1914 e na década de 1920, houve casas nacionais/brasileiras que lideraram a exportação e passaram rivalizar com firmas estrangeiras, sendo que estas firmas passaram a ser as estadunidenses.Item Geographic scope of the global value chain for Indonesian coffee(Universidade Federal de Lavras, 2023-12-29) Suryana, Anggita Tresliyana; Harianto; Syaukat, Yusman; HarminiThrough the global value chain (GVC), the coffee sector is expected to meet one of the UN’s targets in the SDGs, which is to increase exports from developing countries to help them integrate into the multilateral trading system and benefit from it. Understanding the geographic scope of Indonesian coffee is essential, given that coffee is a pivotal global commodity for Indonesian coffee development. This study aims to analyze the geographic scope of Indonesia’s green coffee beans trade and the key factors that determine the flow of this trade. The analytical approach employed is Gereffi’s GVC analysis and Gravity Model. The panel data analysis uses bilateral coffee trade flows of 13 trading partners from 2002 to 2021. Analysis shows Indonesia exports most of its coffee to Global North countries, which also function as lead firms. Indonesia’s coffee GVC is concentrated at the upstream stages, while complex processing activities occur in advanced countries. According to the gravity model, the significant variables that affect Indonesia’s coffee trade flow are the importing country’s real GDP per capita, the importing country’s population, Indonesia’s real exchange rate against the local currency, Indonesia’s coffee competitiveness, and the non-tariff measurements for coffee. The potential countries to increase the Indonesian coffee trade are existing coffee markets.Item Impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on the logistics of exporting coffee in containers(Universidade Federal de Lavras, 2023-12-15) Ferreira, Rafael Silva; Alvarenga, Rafael PazetoFor many years, Brazil has held the title of the world’s largest coffee producer and exporter. However, despite this, national coffee producers still struggle to access foreign markets due to the bottlenecks and high costs associated with the agro-industrial system’s port logistics. The onset of the Covid-19 pandemic only exacerbated these challenges. Issues such as the scarcity of shipping containers and space on ships, cancellation of ship calls, and greater concentration and verticalization of the maritime and port transport sectors have further complicated matters. Furthermore, the regulation of these sectors in Brazil is still in its early stage. This study aimed to enhance the comprehension of the port costs incurred in exporting coffee in containers and the impacts that the Covid-19 pandemic on these costs and export logistics. The research utilized a quantitative and descriptive methodology. Data were gathered through a questionnaire administered to thirteen managers of Brazilian businesses and cooperatives engaged in containerized coffee exports. The study found that the pandemic directly impacted port costs and logistics, leading to more frequent container detention and additional port storage charges. Furthermore, the pandemic resulted in the introduction of new port fees/tariffs and raised the existing ones, such as the “Terminal Handling Charge” (THC), the “Export Logistic Fee” (ELF), the “Bill of Lading Issuance Fee” and the container scanning fee.Item The International Coffee Organization 1963 – 2023: 60 years of ICO development projects to build a sustainable coffee industry(ICO - International Coffee Organization, 2023) ICO, International Coffee OrganizationSixty years ago, the International Coffee Organization (ICO) was established following the conclusion of the first International Coffee Agreement 1962 under the auspices of the United Nations. M.; Penteado, Ricardo B.Companies are looking for reliable partners, including suppliers, that offer high-quality services. The decision-making process involves several stakeholders with different objectives that require different types of relevant criteria to be considered. This study used the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), a multiple-criteria decision analysis and decision-making method, to select a new supplier for a coffee-roasting plant. For this, the type of coffee was selected, and the relevant criteria were established: percentage of extrinsic defects, loss in precleaning, price, and taste. Four different potential suppliers were compared in relation to all criteria using the AHP. We achieved our research objective by establishing an order of priority for the criteria and suppliers. As a result, supplier B was the leading supplier with a 35.29% priority, followed by suppliers A and D. Our findings show great potential for using a formal method in the decision-making process in the agro-industry and applying the AHP method in an important problem and in relevant plant culture.
