CRESCIMENTO VEGETATIVO EM DIFERENTES GENÓTIPOS DE CAFÉ ARÁBICA FERTIRRIGADOS NA REGIÃO DO ALTO PARANAÍBA-MG

Abstract

Este trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar o crescimento vegetativo de três genótipos de Coffea arabica (cultivares Catuaí Vermelho e Mundo Novo e a variedade Bourbon Amarelo), em lavouras irrigadas do Alto Paranaíba- MG. O experimento foi instalado na Fazenda Transagro, município de Rio Paranaíba, no delineamento em blocos casualizados, com três tratamentos e oito repetições. As lavouras comerciais foram implantadas em novembro/dezembro 2006, no espaçamento 3,80 x 0,50 m (Catuaí Vermelho) e 3,80 x 0,80 m (demais genótipos). A partir de 23/06/08, e a cada 14 dias, o crescimento das plantas foi avaliado em ramos dos terços superior e inferior da planta. Em seguida, as taxas de crescimento da parte área foram calculadas. Independentemente do cultivar ou variedade de café arábica cultivado, as taxas de crescimento foram reduzidas durante o período de junho a agosto e elevadas nos meses de setembro a novembro. As temperaturas verificadas nesse período e não a disponibilidade hídrica parece explicar esse padrão de crescimento verificado nas lavouras de café arábica do Alto Paranaíba.

This work aimed to evaluate the vegetative growth of three Coffea arabica genotypes (Catuaí Vermelho, Mundo Novo e Bourbon Amarelo) grown under fertigation conditions at Rio Paranaíba, Minas Gerais State. All investigations were performed at commercial crops of Transagro farm, in a randomized block design, with three treatments and eight replicates. Commercial coffee crops were transplanting to field by 2006 December; Catuaí Vermelho was 3.80 x 0.50 m spaced and the two other genotypes were 3.80 x 0.80 m spaced. By the end of 2008 June, and thereafter at each 14 days, the vegetative growth of coffee plants was measured on the plagiotropic branches in both upper and lower third of coffee plants. The rates of shoot growth were also calculated. Regardless the cultivar or variety of Arabica coffee, the growth rates were very low from June to August and high from September to November. The temperatures observed at those periods but not the water availability may explain such growth pattern found on the Arabica coffee plants grown at Alto Paranaíba area.
